Sustainability at Dorai

Sustainability at Our Core

Woven into every step of our process is a commitment to sustainability—from the way we source materials to the moment our products reach your hands.

Thoughtful Packaging

As of fall 2024, we’ve eliminated plastic from our packaging, ensuring that every piece is 100% recyclable. Our warehouse operations are aligned with this ethos, using only recyclable materials, including paper tape for all shipments.

Rigorous Testing

Your safety and the environment’s well-being are paramount. That’s why we rigorously test all of our products, packaging and inks for PROP 65, BPA/BPS, PFAS (where applicable) and phthalates, ensuring they meet the highest standards.

Mindful Production

We believe in reducing waste wherever possible. To minimize our environmental footprint, we avoid shipping products through air. We review as much as possible through photos and videos from our manufacturing partners, avoiding unnecessary shipping of samples. This careful consideration helps us make informed decisions without excess.

Remote Work Culture

Sustainability extends to our work culture. Our non-warehouse employees work remotely 80% of the week, reducing the need for daily commutes and contributing to a lower environmental footprint.

Circular Economy

Returned products often end up in landfills, but not with Dorai. We carefully inspect all returned items to ensure they’re in good condition before selling it at a deep discount at our Online Warehouse Sales. Products that don’t meet our standards for resale are creatively repurposed by our team members and partners, giving them a new life and keeping them out of the trash.

Responsible Manufacturing

Our commitment to ethical production goes beyond just creating quality products. It’s about forging strong, transparent relationships with our manufacturing partners and ensuring the highest standards of safety, fairness and environmental stewardship.

Our co-founder Jason leads a dedicated team that works closely with our overseas manufacturing partners.

We visit every factory we work with multiple times a year to personally verify safe working conditions and ensure no child labor is ever used. In addition, third-party vendors conduct independent on-site audits using SMETA, a leading methodology for assessing responsible business practices.

ISO 9001: Our factories meet the ISO 9001 standard, a globally recognized benchmark for Quality Management Systems. This certification ensures that our products consistently meet customer expectations and regulatory requirements.

ISO 14001: The ISO 14001 certification confirms that our factories adhere to stringent international environmental management standards, focusing on resource efficiency and waste reduction.

SMETA: Our manufacturing partners undergo SMETA audits to ensure compliance with labor standards, including fair wages, safe working conditions, and a strict no child or forced labor policy.

Safe and Sustainable Materials

We are uncompromising when it comes to the safety and sustainability of our materials. Every component is carefully tested to meet rigorous standards, ensuring that our products are as safe as they are functional.

Prop 65 Compliance: We ensure that our products are free from harmful chemicals, including asbestos and lead, by adhering to California’s Proposition 65. This stringent testing protects you and your family from potential health risks.

FDA Food Safe: We ensure that all materials in contact with food, baby bottle nipples, pacifiers, and other sensitive items are 100% safe. This testing ensures our Diomat® stones and all additional parts are safe for all your wet items.

BPA/BPS Free: We guarantee that every part of every product we offer is free from BPA and BPS, harmful chemicals often found in plastics.

Dishwasher Safe: Our silicone, ceramic, and plastic materials are durable and easy to care for, withstanding the rigors of dishwasher cleaning without compromising safety.

We conduct thorough tests for lead, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, mercury, PFAS, and phthalates on all applicable materials. Our third-party laboratories use recognized testing protocols to ensure the highest quality and safety.

To maintain our high standards, we partner with top-tier third-party organizations for certifications, quality control testing, and independent audits. These experts help us ensure that our products and processes meet and exceed industry standards without compromising our commitment to safety and sustainability.

Future Sustainability Efforts

We’re committed to continually advancing our sustainability efforts. Here’s what’s coming:

Launching in 2025, our dedicated recycling program will make it easy for you to recycle your Dorai products, reducing waste and promoting responsible disposal.

We’re working towards becoming Amazon Climate Pledge Friendly, meeting rigorous sustainability standards to minimize our environmental impact. We’ll be measuring our carbon footprint and offsetting emissions through impactful climate projects.

We’ll recycle all non-diatomaceous earth parts from Amazon returns, ensuring they’re repurposed and kept out of landfills.
